Toy Story is not the only classic Pixar franchise making a comeback with new projects, as the beloved Cars series is also gearing up for more adventures in the near future. The first Cars movie was released in 2006 and revolved around the misadventures of Lightning McQueen, a race car who finds himself trapped in a small town called Radiator Springs and learns valuable life lessons along the way. The successful film led to two sequels, a television series, and several short films and spin-offs focusing on other characters in the franchise.
In a recent interview at the 2023 Porsche Rennsport Reunion Event, saga creative director Jay Ward shared that the team is currently working on a new Cars project, stating, “There are more Cars things brewing, I can’t say much more yet. Cars has got a life that will keep going. I am working on some real fun projects right now that you will see in a couple of years. It takes us a while to make them.” Ward also discussed the franchise’s unexpected growth, saying that the Cars universe became much larger than they had anticipated.

Moving forward, the studio plans to release Inside Out 2 in 2024, alongside their first television series, Win or Lose, which will debut on Disney+. In 2025, audiences can expect Toy Story 5 and a new space opera called Elio.
