Iman Vellani, who portrays Kamala Khan in The Marvels, suggests that Marvel Studios needs to shift its focus to maintain the excitement and anticipation that Avengers: Endgame generated. Amid challenges such as declining critical reception, box office numbers, and external issues like the Jonathan Majors scandal, Marvel Studios must reignite the fans’ passion.
In a discussion with The Direct, Vellani mentions that the studio should make the audience deeply care about the characters, rather than only striving for bigger productions. She believes that combining established characters in novel alliances and crossovers can lead to fresh storytelling and a rekindled emotional connection with the audience. During the interview, she said, “I think it’s just about making the audience care about their characters … it would be nice to see them all again and see them team up.”
Vellani also shares her personal joy in attending Thursday night openings of MCU movies, expressing that her enjoyment of a film is not determined by its commercial success but by the emotional impact it leaves on her and the audience.
Regarding The Marvels’ box office challenges, Vellani stated in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment that she would rather focus on her satisfaction with the final product than the financial figures. She emphasized that the film is enjoyable and fun, adding, “It’s genuinely a good time watching this movie, and that’s all we can ask for with these films.”
The Marvels is currently playing in theaters.
