- Melissa Barrera speaks about her exit from Scream VII and her belief that her words came from a place of love, humanity, and human rights.
- The production of Scream VII collapsed rapidly, with both Barrera and Jenna Ortega leaving the project.
- Despite these setbacks, Neve Campbell expressed interest in returning to the franchise under the right circumstances.
Melissa Barrera’s departure from Scream VII, followed by Jenna Ortega’s exit, has left the future of the horror franchise uncertain. Since then, Barrera has discussed her removal from the project.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Barrera addressed the surprising collapse of Scream 7. She stated, “I’m not the first person that’s happened to, but it was shocking. I don’t even know what to say. I think everything that happened was very transparent, on both sides, and I know who I am, and I know that what I said always came from a place of love and a place of humanity and a place of human rights and a place of freedom for people, which shouldn’t be controversial.”
Regarding Jenna Ortega, who left the movie shortly after Barrera was fired, Barrera said, “Listen, Jenna is a good egg. She’s a good person and we love each other. She would show up for me and I would show up for her no matter what.”
Scream VII has faced numerous challenges, including the loss of director Christopher Landon and stars Barrera and Ortega. Neve Campbell, a key figure in the Scream franchise, recently discussed the possibility of returning as Sidney Prescott in the seventh film after not being offered appropriate compensation for the sixth installment. She said that she could see herself coming back “under the right circumstances” and hopes that the films will continue despite the current issues behind the scenes.
“These movies mean a lot to us and they mean a lot to the fans. I go to these conventions sometimes and I meet the fans and they’re frantic about these films. They love them. These means mean a lot to them and these characters mean a lot to them. So even for their sake, I would love to see it continue,” Campbell added.
The latest two Scream movies are now available for streaming on Paramount+.
