- Lindsay Lohan reportedly earned $500,000 for a half-day’s work in the new Mean Girls movie.
- Paramount Pictures and Lohan’s representative didn’t comment on her salary for the film.
- Tina Fey says Lohan was chosen for the cameo due to her being the “heart” of the original movie.
It appears that Lindsay Lohan made a significant amount of money for her cameo in the new version of Mean Girls, with reports claiming that she was paid $500,000 for half a day of work. Lohan does not reprise her role as Cady Heron, but she does have a small part in the movie musical as the math competition moderator, which takes place near the film’s conclusion.
Variety has reported that sources disclosed the information regarding Lohan’s alleged salary, but the publication wasn’t able to officially confirm the amount with Paramount Pictures or a representative for the actress. Despite the brief appearance, Lohan’s return to the world of Mean Girls marks 20 years since she first played new student Cady Heron in the 2004 movie. In the 2024 adaptation, actress Angourie Rice takes on the role of Cady.
Paramount Pictures sought the inclusion of some original cast members in the new movie musical, with Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reprising their roles as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall. However, the studio wanted a major character from the first film to make an appearance as well. Tina Fey, the brains behind the Mean Girls franchise, explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly why Lohan was selected for the cameo:
“Paramount was like, ‘Can you get any of the original ladies?’ And I was like, ‘I can’t fit five people in.’ I felt like if I could only get one person as a surprise, the original movie is really Lindsay’s movie. As great as they all are, she’s the heart of that movie.”
Fey continued by elaborating on the choice of Lohan’s cameo role:
“And I thought, ‘Well, what could she do?’ I didn’t think [Lindsay should] play a teacher. I was trying to think of something that you wouldn’t expect. And just to have her do that late in the movie, it also feels like it comes, I hope, at a time where fans weren’t expecting one more little surprise. It also lets her be smart, which Cady is.”
The new Mean Girls movie is now playing in theaters, and fans can watch the official trailer for the 2024 adaptation.
