- Jacob Elordi turned down the opportunity to audition for the role of Superman in Superman: Legacy because he felt it was “too dark” for him.
- Elordi’s versatility and talent have been demonstrated in projects such as Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, where he plays Elvis Presley.
- Although he admires some comic book movie performances, like Heath Ledger’s The Joker, Elordi is not particularly interested in the superhero genre and prefers to make movies he would personally watch.
Jacob Elordi, best known for his role in the popular TV series Euphoria, was a fan-favorite choice to take on the part of the Man of Steel in the upcoming movie Superman: Legacy. However, the Australian actor, who has been making a name for himself with his powerful performances in projects like The Kissing Booth and HBO’s Euphoria, as well as his upcoming portrayal of Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, decided to turn down the chance to audition for the iconic superhero role, deeming it as “too dark” for his taste.
Prior to the official casting announcement that David Corenswet would be the new Clark Kent, rumors circulated that Elordi had rejected the opportunity to try out for the part. In a recent interview with GQ, he confirmed these rumors, stating, “They asked me to read for Superman. That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.” Corenswet was ultimately chosen for the role, but there is no denying that Elordi would also have been an excellent pick, considering his growing popularity in the industry.
While Elordi has expressed his admiration for actors like Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, who played Batman and The Joker respectively in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, he admits that he’s unsure if the superhero genre is the right fit for him. He explains, “Not particularly, no. I’ve always been told to say a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen! And obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies.”
Besides Superman, Elordi has also been linked to the character of Nightwing, a popular figure in the Batman universe that fans have been eager to see on the big screen. As for his upcoming projects, the actor is set to appear in Jeffrey Darling’s He Went That Way, starring alongside Zachary Quinto, as well as Daniel Minahan’s On Swift Horses and Paul Schrader’s Oh, Canada. He will also return for the third season of Euphoria, which has yet to announce a release date. This year, Elordi has been part of the casts of Sean Price’s The Sweet East and Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn.
Superman: Legacy is slated for release on July 11, 2025.
