George Clooney made a cameo appearance as Batman in The Flash, but he has made it clear that he has no plans to play the role again in the future. Clooney played Batman in the poorly received 1997 film Batman & Robin, directed by Joel Schumacher. His recent cameo in The Flash has led to speculation that he might redeem his role as the Dark Knight.
In a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Clooney joked about his return as Batman, saying, “There was such a clamor for me to come back as [Batman], as you know. I actually said, ‘Where are my rubber nipples?’ And they were like, ‘Can we do it without the rubber nipples?’ I was like, ‘Well, it’s not really my Batman, is it?'”
When asked if he would be willing to play Batman in a future film, Clooney replied, “I don’t think there’s enough drugs in the world for me to go back there.”
Batman & Robin has long been a topic of humor for Clooney, especially regarding the infamous bat-nipples. The film, which starred Chris O’Donnell, Alicia Silverstone, Uma Thurman, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, failed to impress critics and audiences alike. In a 2021 interview with Variety, Clooney admitted that he didn’t want his wife, Amal Clooney, to ever watch the film, saying, “There are certain films I just go, ‘I want my wife to have some respect for me.'”
Despite his reluctance to reprise the role, Clooney’s cameo in The Flash has fueled speculation that he might make an attempt at redeeming his previous Dark Knight performance in the upcoming DCU film The Brave and the Bold. However, Clooney maintains that he does not want the role. In contrast, Reacher star Alan Ritchson recently expressed his desire to portray the character.
George Clooney will next appear in Jon Watts’ psychological thriller Wolves, alongside Brad Pitt. He is also directing and co-producing The Boys in the Boat, a sports biographical drama centered on the University of Washington rowing team’s journey to winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The film is set to hit theaters on December 25.
