In “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget,” Rocky and Ginger aim to save their daughter, Molly (voiced by Bella Ramsey), from becoming a chicken nugget at Fun-Land Farms. Just after its release, the film held a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 86% for Aardman’s feature-length films, but the score has since dropped dramatically. At the time of writing, “Dawn of the Nugget” has a 78% audience score, ranking it fourth among other Aardman movies. “Shaun the Sheep Movie” currently leads with an audience score of 81%.
Unfortunately, the sequel also holds the second-worst Tomatometer rating of all Aardman feature-length movies at 79%, with only “Flushed Away” scoring lower at 73%. The film faced controversy even before its release on Netflix, as original voice actors Mel Gibson and Julia Sawalha were not invited back for their roles as Rocky and Ginger. Instead, Zachary Levi and Thandiwe Newton were cast as the leads, prompting accusations of ageism.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is now available for streaming exclusively on Netflix.
