Black Adam attains success with DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Releases

  • Black Adam was the top-selling DVD in the UK for 2023, surpassing popular titles like Barbie and Oppenheimer.
  • The film also performed well on the UK’s digital rental and Blu-ray charts, ranking No. 3 and No. 4 respectively.
  • Despite mixed reviews from critics, Black Adam received strong ratings from fans, resulting in an impressive 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the battle of movie sales, Black Adam triumphed over Barbie and Oppenheimer in 2023, topping the UK list by selling 80,000 DVD units. This result is particularly striking considering that Greta Gerwig’s Barbie became the highest-grossing film at the worldwide box office, with a staggering $1.44 billion in revenues, while Black Adam only managed to make $393.5 million globally during its entire theatrical run, starting in October 2022.

Black Adam, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, did perform much better overseas than in the United States, earning $225.3 million internationally compared to its domestic take of $168.2 million. In terms of its theatrical run in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Latin America, the UK was the top performer, with $24.3 million in revenues, followed by Mexico at $15.6 million.

After its release on DVD in January 2023, Black Adam climbed the charts and became the bestseller in the UK, surpassing other popular titles. The film also performed well on the UK’s digital rental and Blu-ray charts, claiming the No. 3 spot in the digital rankings, and No. 4 on the Blu-ray list. Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s Golden Globe-winning Oppenheimer took the top spot for Blu-rays with $1.4 million in sales.

While it received a mediocre CinemaScore of B+, fans supported the film, resulting in a respectable 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics were less forgiving, with the film earning only 38% on the Tomatometer. Currently, fans can stream Black Adam on Max and Netflix.
