11. Battle Beyond the Stars
Battle Beyond the Stars, a 1980 American science fiction film, was directed by Jimmy T. Murakami and produced by Roger Corman. The movie aimed to bring a space twist to the classic Western film, The Magnificent Seven, which itself was a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. John Sayles penned the screenplay, James Horner composed the score, and James Cameron supervised the special effects.
Impressively, many of the effects shots and clips from Battle Beyond the Stars were repurposed for other films during the 1980s. For example, footage was used in the movie Bachelor Party, while the spaceship model made a reappearance in the film Space Raiders. Shout! Factory later acquired the rights to the film and included it in their “Roger Corman’s Cult Classics” series, releasing it on DVD and Blu-ray in 2011.
